A real end-to-end Black Country derby was played out with both sides trying desperately to win the game right to the end. After four minutes The Robins were awarded a free-kick for an apparent strong challenge from the battling Dean Humpage but The Lockmen broke quickly from this to force their first corner on five minutes. Alex Carlin then saw his cross headed clear. A great ball forward from Lyndon Weller then found Mikey Clark to feed Ryan Ward, his ball teed up Alex Carlin to fire wide on ten minutes. Clark was then just wide with a cross-shot before a silky run from Carlin almost saw him break free. Leon Naylor for the visitors then saw his cross headed clear with 12 minutes gone. Paul Holden then flicked a 17th minute corner just wide of the mark before Matt Dove clipped an effort just wide from a 21st minute corner. Humpage then saw a free-kick punched clear by Robin’s keeper James Scarrett as the home side dominated proceedings. Craig Stevens then set up Ward who was unable to get a shot off before Dudley forced three unproductive corners in five minutes. With nine minutes to go to half-time a clever reverse pass from Clark then set up Ward but he fsaw his effort blocked by Scarrett. Two minutes from the break The Lockmen finally broke the deadlock. Stevens did well to force his way to the goal-line from where he pulled the ball back, Ward missed it, two defenders missed it, but not Mikey Clark, who fired into the corner low down. The visitors grabbed a barely deserved leveller on half-time when Matt Dove was fouled and left grounded with the official seeing nothing wrong. When the cross came in Adam Wright challenged Lockmen keeper James Wilson in the air and headed home.

The visitors brought on Christian Ekwemalor at the break and he was immediately in action running down the left and crossing but there was no team-mate in the box. On 49 minutes Clark went past two defenders before finding Ryan Ward, his ball into the area found Stevens, but his weak effort was blocked on the line. Both number sevens then threatened with the visitors’ Steffan Ashman just off target with the home side’s, Matt Dove doing likewise. As the teams took turns to attack but lose possession in dangerous areas, it livened up late on as Ward fired at Scarrett on 79 minutes. The Robins then took the lead with seven minutes to go, Wilson fumbled a routine shot and Dudley sub Shaun Devonport latched on to tuck home. However, within two minutes it was all square again as Ryan ward was found in the box by a cross and he muscled in to score. Both sides went at each other hammer and tongs but no more chances were created as it finished all square.
