The Lockmen missed enough chances to win several games but plucky Tipton deserved a point for their efforts. The Lockmen were straight on the front-foot as they attacked from the whistle and after only fifteen seconds, a quick ball forward into the penalty area was just reached by the keeper before Alex Carlin. On two minutes a long throw into the box was just punched clear by the keeper ahead of a challenging Matt Dorgan. On five minutes a Lyndon Weller free-kick into the box was flicked on by Paul Holden but this time Carlin was crowded out before he could shoot. Sixty seconds later, Ryan Ward won a corner after some hard work, which Willson took, the ball reached Graham Ashton at the far post but his shot was just wide. On 17 minutes Carlin latched onto a long goal-kick before producing a decent cross into the box but a defensive header cleared well. Willson was controversially booked on 18 minutes when he was kicked to the ground by a defender, the official produced a yellow card for a dive. Willson and Mikey Clark combined well to win a 20th minute corner, again Willson delivered into the area where it was cleared. A minute later and the ball was back in Tipton’s danger zone from another Willson free-kick, this time Clark sliced his effort well wide. On 25 minutes and The Lockmen were awarded a penalty when Chris Horton clipped the back of Willson’s heels just outside the penalty area. Willson fired his spot-kick low and hard to the far right corner of the keeper but Sandeep Bains got down quickly to push away from goal, then bounced up quickly to block Dorgan’s fierce follow-up strike, which he deflected over the cross-bar. Carlin took the corner from the Willenhall right and again Bains saved before a second effort was fired wide. After 28 minutes the home side finally forced a save out of Tim Patterson before they then won two corners around the half-hour mark. Paul Holden then headed behind from a first time Dorgan cross on 31 minutes before The Lockmen then had a 38th minute corner cleared. The visitors were then awarded a free-kick as they attempted to put the ball back into the box. Dorgan’s thumping header from Willson’s free-kick flew wide. Ryan Ward then forced another good save on 39 minutes before two more corners were cleared by the home defence. From Clark’s free-kick three minutes before the break, Willson saw his header kicked off the line. Holden then headed two late corners over as The Lockmen continued to dominate.
Four minutes after the break and Tipton won a corner from an indirect free-kick awarded when Patterson inexplicably picked up a back-pass. The ball was deflected behind from the shot. Tipton won a couple of corners and saw two shots fly out almost for a throw-in over the next few minutes as they raised their game. Ward and then Willson won corners for the visitors and the home side then did likewise before Ashton forced a superb save from Bains who blocked his header with his feet as he appeared to be diving the wrong way after Willson’s corner took a slight deflection in the air. Callum Foster then replaced Dorgan and his first run saw him beat six players before he dug out a cross which was smothered clear from Willson’s shot. Gregg Gray then broke for the home side and did well to create space for a shot before curling weakly into Patterson’s arms on 64 minutes. Willson’s run and shot produced a great tip over from Tipton’s keeper on 72 minutes before The Reds were awarded a second penalty on 75 minutes. Tom Rann, once of Willenhall, was dismissed from what the official deemed to be deliberate hand-ball on the line, although nobody seemed to appeal with any conviction. This time Ward stepped up but he too wasted it, firing a yard wide of Bains’ right hand post. The Lockmen then won yet another corner which the keeper was forced to punch clear. Patterson saved well with nine minutes remaining as the home side sensed they may be able to make Willenhall pay for their wasted chances. Four minutes later and Patterson pushed a low strike away from goal. On 86 minutes Holden headed a free-kick at goal, and from the recycled cross he saw another header caught. Two minutes from time and The Lockmen finally got the goal that didn’t look like coming. Willson dinked a free-kick low to the keeper’s right, this time he could only shovel the ball forwards and Carlin nipped in to poke home. As the clock ticked into stoppage-time Ward was given off-side but he then tried to prevent the Tipton player getting the ball, a little shoving match evolved before home sub Robbie Duffield got involved with Ward. He pushed his head into Ward’s face, and The Reds striker looked to push back. Both men were eventually dismissed and Carlin also booked for Willenhall when the official finally managed to work out what had happened. After two minutes delay Tipton sent the ball up field but saw it eventually returned by The Lockmen, Willson eventually seeing his shot well saved four minutes into injury-time. With time seemingly up the ball was launched up field where Tipton sub Lee Blake somehow muscled his way onto the ball before firing across Patterson and in. There was still time to see Ashton’s header force another corner before the official eventually blew his whistle.
