The Lockmen found themselves up against it in the Keyway Derby, entering the game with fifteen players unavailable due to injuries, holidays and work.  The Steelmen started brighter with Clarke causing problems with a run and cross from the right. However the ball played in failed to match the approach work, falling behind the onrushing attackers.  Ben Holden then punched clear a corner on three minutes as Clarke’s next cross then set up Mark Habbashaw for a free header which he nodded wide under no pressure.  From the next Clarke ball in two minutes later, Habbashaw guided a fine header beyond the reach of Holden and into the very far corner for the opening goal.  The Lockmen still hadn’t threatened and were two down on 17 minutes when ex-Lockman Liam Morris rolled the ball home when a clever ball into the box found him in space.  Holden then prevented a third goal with a fine save on twenty minutes before Craig Sudlow had the first chance for the visitors, his shot producing a fine headed clearance to prevent a goal.  With the heavy rain and strong wind making conditions difficult, the home side were seeing plenty of possession but no real threat as good defending and poor decisions prevented any danger. The Lockmen were back in the game on 37 minutes when a move down the left saw Danny Hemmings produce a fine cross in and Simon Laidley guided the ball beyond the keeper and into the net to halve the deficit.  Shortly after Callum Foster then won a corner for The Reds but again it was cleared with little danger.  Holden then produced another save just before the break to keep out The Steelmen.

The first action of the second half on 49 minutes saw the home side stretch their advantage when a ball in from the left was allowed to travel across the box and John Holdcroft was able to fire home unchallenged.  Bilston then had a free-kick four minutes later but Morris was off target and then had another shot at goal on 67 minutes but again Holden took comfortably.  The home side weren’t afraid to put their foot in and one such challenge was punished on 70 minutes when Sudlow curled a delightful free-kick into the net from 25 yards to again reduce the arrears.  Man of the Match Ben Holden then produced a superb save to deny the Bilston scoring a 4th on 72 minutes before punching the resultant corner clear.  Another poor challenge saw another booking and another free-kick on 73 minutes, this time Sudlow chipped a clever ball in behind the defence but nobody reacted to the clever ploy.  In Willenhall’s next attack Laidley broke well to set up Sudlow, but the striker fired wide.  With ten minutes left Ben Holden produced a brilliant one handed save to deny Bilston, Andy Cahill then threw himself bravely in front of the fierce follow up to again deny a goal.  The Steelmen had to final chances late on as Willenhall pushed for an equaliser but both chances when Bilston broke clear were blazed high and wide.
