The Lockmen produced a superb backs-to-the-wall display at fancied Pegasus to come away with a deserved win. Decisions conspired against them as a harsh red card and then an injury to the keeper robbed them of two vital mainstays of their defence but a stunning performance saw them tke a two goal lead against the odds before withstanding a late fightback. Stuart Curwen, on his debut between the sticks made a fine first minute save before …doing likewise from the corner as the hosts flew out of the traps. The Lockmen had two half chances through Chad birch before Juniors had a couple of eforts rom Josh Tomkins and Corey Hyde. Two minutes from the break and Willenhall had the perfect chance to take the lead when Chad Birch was sent tumbling to the ground in the area. Unfortunately he blazed the spot-kick a yard over.
On 52 minutes Darren Williams was harshly dismissed for a clumsy challenge as his opponent was heading to the corner flag, a goal-scoring opportunity denied was a surprise to the visitors. Hyde hit the resultant free-kick well but Curwen saved superbly, getting injured in the process. He soldiered on after several minutes tratment but had to come off two minutes later as he collapsed in a heap, leaving striker Matt Dorgan to don the gloves for the last half hour.
The Willenhall defence were willing to put their bodies on the line as they blocked three efforts in one scramble and the attack which cosisted of a lone striker Corey Pearce with support from Birch, ran themselves to a standstill. They were rewarded on 69 minutes when Birch did brilliantly to hold off four defenders as he got into the area before squaring for sub Kyle Thompson to blast home unmarked. It got even better on 89 minutes as Dorgan, who had little to do other than catch a couple of crosses and make a couple of routine saves, boomed a kick to Birch on the right wing, he cut inside a couple of markers, accelerated into the box past two more before blazing into the corner of the goal. The Lockmen hung on grimly for nine minutes of stoppage-time, especially after Jack Lewis had hammered a 25 yard free-kick intio the net in the second of the added minutes, but ultimately The Lockmen hung on for a stunning victory.
