The Lockmen found their defence carved apart by three lightning quick strikers as they conceded seven second-half goals to Haughmond.
The forthcoming carnage would have been the last thing on anybody’s mind as The Lockmen started much the brighter side, culminating in Matt Dorgan being played through on 13 minutes and confidently firing past Sam Jones. The visitors threatened when a quick free-kick from Nathan Hodge found Stuart Howarth in the box, however he was smothered by Lucan Spittle and keeper Harry Radford. On 16 minutes Haughmond broke again, this time through Howarth, this time his cross-shot was picked out by Radford. Chadd Birch then did well for The Reds as he turned cleverly between two defenders, however, his cross flew across the face of goal. A minute later and radford punched clear from a cross from Scott Graham. The Lockmen saw a corner on 19 minutes come to nothing before the pendulum swung fully in the favour of the visitors. Haughmoind levelled on 22 minutes when Kev Renshaw latched on to a throughball to fire confidently across Harry Radford as the home defence switched off. The Lockmen continued to threaten through Dan Sedwick’s 25 yard strike on 29 minutes after good play between Cavan and Curtis Ellis and the former threatened with two more dangerous crosses into the area in the next couple of minutes. However, they were knocked out of their stride on 37 minutes when another quick throughball as the defence dozed temporarily found Howarth who latched on and finished well. The visitors won a free-kick two minutes later, however, this was deflected behind for an unproductive corner.
HT WILLENHALL TOWN 1-2 HAUGHMOND
Whatever team talk would have been given at half-time must have gone straight out of the window for The Lockmen as they conceded four times in twelve minutes. On 47 minutes a clever free-kick saw the ball knocked sidewards from Howarth and Hodge netted from the left hand side of the box. On 49 minutes Cavan Ellis and Chadd Birch combined well to set up Sam Brookbut his effort was inches wide. On 51 minutes they won a flag-kick but this drifted wide and this brief spell of pressure was wasted on 53 minutes when another quick break saw Howarth net his second Two minutes later another quick break from their own half saw Hodge net his second and Haughmond’s fifth. After 56 minutes another Willenhall free-kick saw two efforts blocked from Chadd Birch. Howarth then sealed his hat-trick when another quick long ball forward allowed the forward enough space to bury his shot with 59 minutes played. The Lockmen saw their day go from bad to worse as keeper Harry Radford was carried off on 65 minutes, his ankle injury appeared to have been inflicted when a foot was left in as he attempted to kick clear, leaving the home side to soldier on with ten men as all three subs had just been used. Goalscorer Dorgan’s first job as replacement keeper was to pick the ball out of the net three minutes later as Steve Hole’s deflected free-kick nestled in the very far corner of the net. The game entered a quiet spell as the home team attempted damage limitation after what had gone before while the visitors seemed to ease off a little until the last eight minutes when Hodge broke clear on 82 minutes to notch his hat-trick before Renshaw rounded off the scoring two minutes from time after another quick break and cross into the box.
