The Lockmen completely destroyed their hosts as they ran in five second half goals against a Black Country Rangers side that looked totally uninterested.
HT BLACK COUNTRY RANGERS 0-1 WILLENHALL TOWN
Rangers saw a dangerous Brodie Williams cross set up a chance for Shane Campbell who fired wide. The Lockmen doubled their lead on 47 minutes when a home defender gave the ball away and Liam Wilkinson fed Chadd Birch, allowing him to roll an effort into the corner. The home side had a corner on 55 minutes before a great chance was wasted by substitute Ryan Boothe as he fired past Chambers but found only the outside of the post. Rangers halved the deficit on 57 minutes when home skipper Russ Garner netted from Chambers’ one mistake, a bobbling ball bounced awkwardly, hit his chest and fell nicely for the home skipper. Clayton Peddie then twice saved The Lockmen with successive blocks on the hour before Town stretched their lead a minute later. Habbershaw played the ball wide and when Curtis Ellis crossed he was perfectly placed to thump a delightful shot into the far top corner of the net. Remi Mongeaud was then played clean through soon after but shanked horribly wide as he fell over his own feet. Chambers then produced a stunning one handed save to deny Lewis Archer with thirteen minutes remaining. The Lockmen then killed the game on 80 minutes when a short back pass allowed Josh Annakin to latch onto the ball and he flicked a header past Cox and watched the ball trickle home. Five minutes later a forward ball found Chadd Birch who beat the keeper to the ball easily and delicately lifted it over him and watched as it rolled against the post and in. Chadd Birch could then have scored again when he produced some neat skills to create space for a clever chip to the far post where it was fractionally beyond the goal. However, he netted his hat-trick in stoppage-time when he pounced onto a long ball forward and slotted home for goal number 28 for the season.
