Possibly the youngest Willenhall Town side in history were punished for individual errors in a game that didn’t reflect the scoreline.
The Lockmen saw returning striker Jake Morgan‘s third minute header cleared off the line and before Ryan Downing saw a tenth minute effort test the keeper. There were a couple of dangerous crosses taken by the keeper before the visitors broke quickly on 24 minutes and Jon Scragg was on hand to finish. Jack Smith flicked a header wide on the half hour before Allscott doubled their lead when Jorge Gomes the Allscott skipper powered a header home after muscling through the defence at a corner. The third goal followed a minute later when a defender was turned too easily and the ball was fired home. Allscott smelt blood and young keeper Declan Haire made three fine saves to prevent further score.
The Lockmen came out rejuvenated and put Allscott under all sorts of pressure but didn’t create anything other than a string of crosses which Allscott keeper Dan Pilkington dealt with. On 75 minutes any hopes of a fightback dissappared when a strong direct run into the box saw no Willenhall attempt at a tackle and some fancy footwork allowed a low cross from a tight position which set up Christian Wilkinson with a tap in. Two minutes later Ryan Hughes netted a spectacular own goal when trying to deal with clearing a dangerous cross in the six yard box.
The Lockmens next game is an away fixture at Bustlehome, Saturday 12th August.
