The Lockmen got their first home point of the season but they had to come from behind after losing an early two goal lead.
It was Willenhall who broke the deadlock on six minutes when Richard Heekes broke quickly from a Wyrley corner. His ball found Simon Laidley who fed Carll Guinn and when his ball into the box found Geovannie Shaw, he was able to create the space to fire across visiting keeper Joe Williams. The visitors were peppering keeper Chris Adamson, who after several routine saves produced two fine one-on-one blocks. Adamson’s long kick then set Shaun Thomas free but he missed his kick when in on goal. Carl Guinn then extended the lead for The Lockmen on 21 minutes when he was freed by Shaw and he asily raced on to fire across Williams into the far corner. Guinn should have scored again three minutes later but he fired wide from close in after showing strength to win the ball. The visitors were back in it when Adamson conceded a penalty on 33 minutes, Scott Gill sending him the wrong way. Adamson then made two more fine saves to keep his side ahead at the break.
Wyrley levelled on 49 minutes when Chris Geldart was played through on the right and he fed Matty Rhodes to level despite Richard Wharton’s attempt to clear. Another save from Adamson kept the scores level, but on 62 minutes he was beaten again when a free-kick from the left flew across goal to the far post where Rhodes netted again. Direct from kick-off Shaun Thomas was played through only to fire into the side-netting, as did sub Josh Esson. After visiting sub Liam Sanders had fired wide on 67 minutes. The Lockmen levelled a minute later when Jake Sharman broke and crossed after combining with Luke Green, his ball picking out Guinn who grabbed his second. Esson again broke and fired at the keeper before The Lockmen had won the game, when a determined run from Green saw him cross and pick out the head of Guinn to nod home, only for the assistant to rule the ball had crossed the bye-line.
The Lockmen travel to Wolverhampton casuals on Tuesday night for a JW Hunt first round tie, kick- off 7.45pm.
