FULL MATCH REPORT
A shocking performance against a poor side saw three points thrown away in a vital six-pointer, compounded by a bad injury to Harry Rickus. A tentative opening from both sides saw no action until the home side won a corner on 12 minutes. In keeping with what had preceded it, the ball was easily cleared. Four minutes later and The Lockmen broke the deadlock unexpectedly. Mikey Clark was chopped down by Jake Keyworth 25 yards from goal in a central position, and the winger picked himself up to curl a wonderful strike into the bottom right hand corner of Vito Pinheiro’s goal. Matt Dove saw an effort pushed wide shortly after, but the official’s flag was already raised. Sports finally put a decent cross into the box only to see a foul on Ben Holden wipe out any danger. Community then had a free-kick on 38 minutes, but this was pumped high over the bar. Four minutes from the break and The Lockmen went close to doubling their advantage when fine play between Wilson and Clark set up Dove again, but his effort whistled inches wide. The Reds had a couple of corners which were cleared before Community levelled with their first shot. Graham Ashton made a hash of a clearance and Eithan Delaney picked up the loose ball and hit a sweet strike into the far corner, totally out of context with the rest of a poor game.
HT WOLVERHAMPTON SPORTING COMMUNITY 1-1 WILLENHALL TOWN
The second period was completely devoid of goalmouth action as the home side created sporadic attacks which failed to see a single shot at goal due to a combination of wayward passing and poor control, which was more than The Lockmen created. There was a delay whilst Harry Rickus was treated after he landed awkwardly and collapsed with what would later be diagnosed as a break. Sports finally got their final ball right and Arnold Chaponda was played through to smash a fierce effort into the roof of the net on 85 minutes. The Lockmen won a corner on 88 minutes which was headed wide before a free-kick at the start of injury-time flew wide. Two minutes later Sports sealed a win when Matt Fusco made the most of a hashed clearance by Holden to walk the ball into an unguarded net.
