The Lockmen stormed back from 3-1 down to win this friendly against higher ranked Smethwick. Smethwick scored first on ten minutes when they pounced on a stray pass to take the lead. Steve Stearn and then Tom Lawton went close. However, midway through the half, The Lockmen levelled when a clever through ball sent Liam Hickman clear and he fired past the keeper. Smethwick re-took the lead when Willenhall again gave the ball away just outside the penalty area on the stroke of half-time, there was more than a hint of handball in the final move.
On 58 minutes a free header from a corner stretched the lead to two goals for Smethwick. Luke Green twice went close for Willenhall before they pulled a goal back on 66 minutes. Green broke through before setting up Ben Browne to hammer against the underside of the bar from close range, Tom Lawton followed up to hammer home. Green fired across goal two minutes later . Lawton then fired across goal before Browne levelled the game on 78 minutes when he chased down the keeper who hammered a clearance against his legs , only to see the ball rebound past him and in. A minute later and Browne won the game when a quick ball forwards picked him out and he cleverly lobbed the keeper.
